This is the first of an ongoing series. I shall attempt to map and visit every bike shop in the Manchester Evening News’ distribution area. And possibly a few beyond.
Withington Cycles is my local bike shop, so it was an obvious choice as a place to begin.

Established The shop has been in Withington since moving from Didsbury in the 1980s.
Bike Brands stocked GT, Mongoose, Charge, Claud Butler, Orbea, Flow, Cube, Haro, Kinesis, Dawes, Schwinn, Summer, Massive. They also sell second hand bikes, but stock fluctuates. When I went in they had no pre-used bikes in stock.
Clothing/ helmets All types of cycle clothing and helmets.
Accessories All types of accessories.
Components All types of components.
Servicing The shop can carry out anything up to a full service. All the mechanics are accredited.
Opening times 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday. 9am to 5pm Saturday. Closed Sunday.
Social The shop is associated with the Ashley CC and Manchester CTC.
Discounts Available for CTC members and NUS members. They also sell bikes on the Bike To Work scheme, which allows for the tax free purchase of bikes for commuting.
