Parking, protests, politics and power

Unprecedented.
The outcry over the proposed on-street parking charges in Manchester on evenings and Sundays has been quite incredible. More than 3,000 of you have contacted us to have your say. I can’t remember the last time an issue provoked so much reaction – or such a uniformly negative response.
My guess? After this and this, the scheme won’t happen. At least not now, and not in its current form.
That would go to show that “people-power” can make a difference. Hopefully, too, it would encourage people to have their say on other issues, rather than grumbling in the shadows.
