Yellow buses: anyone still awake?

9th October, 2008

Someone’s sent me a link to one of the TIF bid background documents. It contains this table:

As Mary Brooks pointed out in an earlier thread, however, these are services funded not just by TIF but also local transport money.

  1. Interesting that the Story entitled Lies? regarding Yellow buses as featured on the Stockport Express front page has been removed from the Stockport Express web site.

  2. What was the gist of the story Mary?

  3. David,
Many thanks to you and your correspondent. Local residents in Salford have been told in TIF presentations that “up to 29 yellow buses” will be provided through the congestion charge and TIF bid. It’s clear from the documentation and table above that the real TIF figure is likely to be no more than 12. Shocking and deliberately misleading information.
I’ve blogged on this in more detail here: http://www.iainlindley.co.uk/2008/10/09/yellow-school-buses-deliberate-deception/

  4. What’s that?
The pro-toll side engaging in deliberate misinformation?
    Who’d have thought that!

  5. This confirms Stockport’s increasing concern that the TIF package does not add up.
These contradictions in TIF information should not be happening at a time when the public ought to have transparent and robust information on this controversial project. Unfortunately, it is not the first time we have had to suffer misinformation over TIF and we now have to ask ourselves if we can trust the information they are putting in the public domain.
An independent survey carried out by our council has showed more than two-thirds of our residents and three-quarters of our businesses did not support the introduction of a congestion charge. We will maintain a policy of opposition as long as the public of Stockport remains opposed.

  6. Well done Councillor Goddard, it is nice to see a Councillor truly reflecting the opinion of the majority of his constituents for once. Long may it continue.

  7. I think the figures in Manchester do not seem to add up either!
I think the whole exersize in a farce
