Milanese mind control

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

I watched an episode of Derren Brown’s Trick or Treat last night – great stuff.
Brown is an illusionist specialising in mind control and perceptual manipulation. He is also a master of picking up unconscious physical cues people give off.
In this particular episode he managed to convince a lady that her red car was black. She stood in front of the car insisting: “It’s my car but it’s black,” while her exasperated friends looked on.
I’m surprised no football club has employed Brown to monitor opponents’ press conferences. Whenever Arsene Wenger insists Thierry Henry is not fit or Sir Alex Ferguson is throwing out red herrings about Rio Ferdinand’s injury, Brown would be onto them like a flash. A glance here, a sniff there – once you know the secrets it’s like reading a book.
I’m not normally one for predictions because they can come back to bite you. But I reckon I picked up a few tricks from Mr Brown, and using my newly found powers here is my minute by minute prediction for tonight’s Champions League clash between AC Milan and United.
Minute 1: Ferdinand is selected, Vidic benched
34: Cristiano Ronaldo goal
62: Scholes clatters Kaka, booked
65: Inzaghi goal
78: Kaka goal
FT: Milan 2 United 1 – United knocked out
There you go. I’m sorry all you United fans out there but I have seen it already.
In my next blog I’ll compare what actually happened to my prediction to see if I have a future in the mind control game (I suppose I should know that already).

The Great Manchester Run draws closer and I need to up my training if I’m to hit my sub 50 minutes target. Hopefully the weather will cool off a bit because if May 20 is a scorcher I can see myself settling for a sunny jog. Are any of you doing the run? If so feel free to pass on any tips for the race via the comment box below.
